Punta Mita has been luring travelers for decades. At the very north tip of Banderas Bay is this exclusive peninsula where the sun shines 325 days a year, surfers ride waves at their many breaks, and the rich spend time relaxing at the Punta Mita estates. There’s something for everyone in Punta Mita, except for the heavy partiers who might find it too quiet for the liking.
Without a doubt, Punta Mita’s best sights are its beaches, on the north end of the bay are generally the nicest, with soft white sands and shallow waters. It’s also the only area that offers waves that are consistently conducive to surfing.Â
The area doesn’t really have any cultural attractions per se, though you may want to explore few towns such as El Anclote and Litibu.
Punta Mita has quite a few restaurants to choose from, including no-frills taco joints and traditional Mexican places and a few upscales options.
Punta Mita is the priciest place to stay in Banderas Bay, but there are few lower-budget options, as well as Airbnbs. More affordable lodging options may require a car or taxi to get to.
The place is a very sleepy town, but there is plenty to do in the ocean; therefore, most people ahead into La Cruz, Bucerias, or even Puerto Vallarta for more nighttime excitement. Guests of the resort in gated Punta Mita enjoy regular in-house events and entertainment, occasionally open to the public.
With the influx of wealthy guests, the town has seen a surge in boutiques offering bespoke clothing, art, and jewelry, clustering along the entrance and the road that runs along the beach.Â
