Sayulita Overview

Sayulita is used to be a surfer’s secret, is now the star of the Riviera Nayarit, a colorful, charming village that positively vibrates with good energy.

A couple of decades ago, Sayulita was a small fishing village. Then it was “discovered” by some adventurous surfers traveling the coast searching for the perfect wave.

Today, it’s a trendy destination, attracting not only surfers but international travelers. And considered as a magical town for the Mexican Government.

A mecca for eco-conscious travelers who have a little extra in their budget, Sayulita is a bohemian beachscape for visitors interested in yoga, organic food, casual nightlife that goes into the wee hours, and ethically sourced artisan products.

Sayulita also is hailed as a popular bohemian, off-the-beaten-path-travel destination. Sayulita offers various recreational activities such as horseback riding, hiking, jungle canopy tours, snorkeling, and fishing.

One thing has put Sayulita on the map, and everything revolves around it: the beach. If spending days by the ocean, chilling out and letting time go by sounds like your cup of tea, the Sayulita could be what you were looking for.

Surfing is what put this lively town in Riviera Nayarit on the map. If riding waves is your thing, Sayulita offers quite a selection of outdoor activities.

There are two main beaches in Sayulita: Sayulita’s Beach and Playa Los Muertos. Also, with such an influx of tourism, there’s no lack of places to eat in the town, and many are in the lower to the mid-budget range.

If you are interested in shopping for something, boutique shopping might be some of the best in the country. Given its bohemian roots, many boutiques in town offer exceptional fair-trade, handcrafted, and artisan products.
