Visit the Colonial Town San Sebastián del Oeste in our Private Tour
When you visit San Sebastian del Oeste with our Private Guided Tour, you will be amazed how this ex-mining small colonial town founded in 1605 is in the middle of the mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental.
A town 50 miles (80 km) away from Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta. The sleepy San Sebastian del Oeste is the Mayberry of Mexico but a little less lively. The town is the kind of place where strangers greet one another in passing. The miners who built the town have long gone, and more recently, younger habitats are drifting away in search of opportunity. Most of the 800 or so people who have stayed seem perfectly content with life as it is.
Walk around on cobblestone streets and handsome brick sidewalks, admiring the white-faced adobe structures surrounding the plaza. Take any side street and wander at will. Enjoy the enormous walnut trees lining the road into town. And diminutive peach ? trees peaking over garden walls. The reason to go to this cozy, lazy, beautiful town at 5,250 feet above sea level is to look inward and reflect on life. Our outward greeting or chatting as best you can with those you meet.
Of particular interest is the neoclassical and baroque church, the Iglesia de San Sebastian, sitting on the Plaza Principal’s main plaza, a gorgeous rose garden with fruit trees. Surrounding the plaza are restaurants, hotels, and shops.
Heading east out of the town, you will cross over the picturesque curved bridge (Paso del Norte); this route will take you to the silver mines and up La Bufa.
On this comprehensive San Sebastian Private walking tour, our guides will take you to San Sebastian del Oeste Square and other destinations in the heart of the city. You’ll spend time at each of the town’s most important historical landmarks. Learn about San Sebastian’s heyday as a colonial town in the 1700s and marvel at the immaculate structural preservation of a town truly tucked away from time.
